I can't bank on a three-year period at Manchester United - Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim

United's manager - seen receiving consolation after May's European final loss - says he is pleased by the investor's continued commitment but underscored that the future is unpredictable in the sport.

The Red Devils' boss Ruben Amorim thinks it is important Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly shared his long-term thoughts - but states nothing is guaranteed about the future in the sport, never mind three seasons.

Through a conversation with a leading newspaper in recent days, the co-owner mentioned it may need the manager a three-year period to create substantial change at United's home ground.

Coming in a period when Amorim's future has been facing examination in the wake of a lengthy stretch of poor performances, the words contributed to reducing some of the immediate pressure.

However, talking ahead of the centenary clash with traditional foes the Reds at their home ground, the United boss underscored that what comes next is challenging to anticipate in football.

"It's certainly beneficial to hear it but he informs me continuously, sometimes with a message following matches - but you know, I realize and Jim knows, that soccer doesn't work that way," he commented.

"The most important thing is the following fixture. Despite having backers, you cannot dictate tomorrow in soccer."

Chief executive the club executive has acknowledged it has needed far longer for the manager to adjust to the English top flight following his move from Sporting Lisbon in November than anyone imagined.

United have won 10 victories in 34 Premier League matches under the 40-year-old. They still haven't achieved consecutive league victories and didn't complete a matchday in the current term above ninth position.

The concerning numbers are testing faith in the head coach among the Red Devils supporters heading into a sequence of matches their club has been awful in for the last couple of years.

United's boss commented he isn't experiencing the instability within the organization at the team's practice complex and is firm nothing can match the stress he puts on his players - and in some senses, he would choose the co-owner to refrain from seeking to create tranquility because he is concerned about the influence it may create on the squad.

"It's not only a thing that people talk about, I sense it daily," he remarked. "It's certainly beneficial to hear it because it helps our fans to comprehend the administration realize it needs a period.

"Yet concurrently, I'm not fond of it because it gives a feeling that we own time to resolve issues. I don't wish for that feeling in our team.

"The pressure I put on the team or to myself is considerably larger [versus outside influences]. In the sport, especially in big clubs, you must demonstrate your value each weekend."
