Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had caused some to question if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent saved 4 early break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
