Sandwich launched by protester supposedly shattered and created condiment mark on immigration officer, legal proceedings reveal
A federal customs official has declared in court he could feel through his body armor the collision of a sandwich hurled at him by a Washington DC protester, who has stood before a judge for criminal charge.
Federal border agent the government official informed the jury the sandwich "exploded all over him" and he "could smell the aromatic vegetables and yellow sauce" on his uniform.
Neither side disputes that the accused, thirty-seven, did in fact lob obscenities and a made-to-order snack at authorities assigned by the administration to secure the Washington DC in August.
The event was recorded on recording and spread across the internet, making Mr Dunn a representation of dissent in the capital to the former president.
Government prosecutors initially tried to achieve serious criminal counts against Mr Dunn, but a legal panel declined to prosecute him.
The former president's deployment of military personnel to the capital this season caused protest from some of the city's residents, who considered it a politicisation of the military.
Per court papers, Mr Dunn walked up to a law enforcement team at about 11 PM on the summer date, calling them "extremists" and yelling: "What is your purpose? Your presence is unwanted in my city!"
The legal proceeding witnessed a reenactment from the agent on the court date as he testified against the defendant.
"I could feel it through my protective gear," he said of the item's force, adding that an onion string remained from his official equipment and sauce discolored his uniform.
Mr Dunn's lawyer, his legal representative, said in her court presentation that launching the sandwich was a "non-threatening act that did not, could not, create physical damage".
But government attorney John Parron argued Mr Dunn must be facing consequences.
"Regardless of identity, you can't just go around launching items at people because you're mad," Mr Parron said.
After the claimed attack was revealed, Mr Dunn was fired from his position as a paralegal in the Department of Justice.
